An Operating System is the low-level software that manages a computer system. It takes care of the way the hardware functions, the communication with peripheral devices such as a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between various applications, and the prioritization of applications in case several run at once. Each program which is installed on a notebook or a desktop operates by sending requests to the OS for various services by using an application program interface (API). The communication with the OS is possible through a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the Internet hosting world, the OS is what controls a web server as well as any software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but also any other application for example a VOIP or a game server. If there are virtual machines created, they use a guest OS that is run on the server host OS.

Multiple OS in VPS Servers

We offer three different Linux releases for the Operating System of our VPS servers - Debian, CentOS and Ubuntu. These are among the safest and the most reliable OSs on the market and we provide all three of them rather than just one since we realize that you may want to install some software that has specific requirements regarding the Operating System it will run on. The latter is because each of the three Operating Systems has a large support community behind it and there're various software programs you could install on the web server. Your OS choice will also determine what hosting Control Panel can be installed on the VPS in case you wish to use one and that is why we offer several Control Panels as well. If you ever decide that you need some other OS, our tech support team can quickly wipe the existing one and set up the one that you would like. We also offer an optional service to maintain the OS on your VPS updated weekly.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

In case you decide to acquire one of our dedicated servers, you shall find three Operating Systems on the order page as we want to give you a larger choice for the system environment on the machine as different applications may have particular requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian include different modules developed by their large support communities, so you can select any of these OSs and enjoy a stable and secure web hosting service. Based on your selection, you will also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always change the Operating System if the one you have selected in the beginning does not meet the requirements of the software which you'd like to run. We can also upgrade your OS on a regular basis in order to keep it as secure as possible through our Managed Services upgrade package.
